June 28, 2015 -2:00pm ALA San Francisco signing at Harper Booth – 3:00pm ALA SF – WNDB Presents: How to move from talk to action-WNDB believes that librarians are in a perfect position to be the wave of change needed to bring diverse books to center stage. Not only by reaching out to those readers who traditionally do not see themselves reflected in children’s literature, but by bringing diversity to all children. Attendees will discuss how best to book talk diverse books and will be given strategies to engage in constructive dialogue with regards to those diverse books (classic and modern) that may perpetuate stereotypes. Panelists will also discuss issues of privilege, bias, and cultural context and the importance of the ongoing need for diverse narratives. Panelists – Gene Luen Yang, Stephanie Kuehn, Cynthia Leitich-Smith, Cindy Pon, Ellen Oh and Aisha Saeed.
